Lift pump low pres. LED warning: not needed for my '97?
I got a '97 12V a few weeks ago. Shop recommended an Oregon Fuel Injection LED kit for monitoring my lift pump pressure. I looked at the kit's instruction sheet and it said for model years 1998 through, (something like), 2002. I questioned that. Shop said it would work fine for my '97.
I called Oregon Fuel Injection. Their tech said my '97 had the in-line pump and didn't need the kit. He also said the kit would install fine, but my, "high pressure system," was such that I'd probably never see the low pressure light come on in any case. He also warned that my high pressure system might cause their, "sender," unit to leak, so if I put it in, watch it.
I can't see putting in anything that is prone to leak.
So that is my report their kit application. My question to this group is: do I need ANY after-market warning system for my lift pump??
I am still learning what I need to do to give my truck, (at 127K miles), good care. It is sitting most of the time until my appointment in 2 weeks for dowl pin fix. Then it will get track bar. Ball joints OK as well as torque bar.
Thanks, Dennis

A FP gauge is great on a 12 valve for diagnosing fuel system problems or alerting you to a plugging fuel filter. Saving one unnecessary filter change will pay for the gauge. Idiot light would be useless in this application, you need a real gauge.

I would go with the gauges and save a little money in the long run. I have an idiot light in my truck and it helped to tell me the pressure was low but it doesn't tell you how low....just got my in-line pump and gauges delivered yesterday.
