lift pump

i've been getting a ticking noise from down by the lift pump for quite a while now, its off and on, seems to do it randomly and only at idle to 1100rpms or so.

the truck has ran fine until the last 10 days or so.

randomly at wide open throttle (wot) it will die/ cut out for a second like feels like i've run out of fuel then come right back and be fine.

then the last few mornings when i start it (been fairly cold low 30's high 20's) it ticks really bad for 20 seconds or so.

then today i started it up and it ticked, went to class 10 mile drive, then 2 hrs later start it up and it ticks... then i'm in the truck idling talking on the phone and it cuts out drops 75rpms a couple of times but then returns to normal idle after each time.

is this my lift pump going?

i pulled the overflow valve out a couple weeks ago and measured the spring and it was within spec.

where is the best place to get the lift pump?

i have a freightliner dealer about 3 miles up the road, but where is going to be the cheapest, i'm on a budget.

how long can i expect it to take me to change the pump... i've done a few on 1st gens but never had to work on the 2nd gen.

the truck is a 1998 12v with 111,000 miles, i assume its the original lift pump.

Usually around $150 from the parts houses. I did find a site that lists them for $65 called savesave.com, but I have no experience with them. Plan on a couple of hours to change it out. Kinda hard to reach everything and line it all back up again.

Just don't mention football to Marty if you want to get off the phone in a reasonable amount of time...
