Let's talk wastegate operation

I want to move my boost elbow to the output of my turbo. I want to check operation of my wastegate while I have the turbo off the truck.

How much air pressure do I need to put on the wastegate actuator to see the wastegate linkage move?

Thanks,

Ronnie

20psi should open it fully - they tend to rupture after long exposure to exhaust heat, so may not open at any pressure - solution is replacement

The Boost tap is on the compressor housing for the automatic trans trucks, anyway - where are you moving it to?

gmctd is right 20 psi is all you need, although depends how old you could see it moving will less.

If you plumb it to the head you will get a couple more psi boost and the turbo will cover the pressure drop through the intercooler and plumbing.

If plumbed to the intake manifold, you'll get more effective pressure, by ~2psi - plumb it to the compressor housing and you get ~2psi less in the manifold - but, the automatic trucks are plumbed directly to the turbo compressor housing anyway - why replumb it to another location on the compressor housing - it's all the same pressure till it gets thru the 'cooler, which drops ~2psi on a cool day

For some unknown reason, I lost wastegate operation several years ago and promptly lost a head gasket with too much boost. I replaced the head gasket and forgot to install the metal line from the back of the AFC across the head and down to the wastegate barb.

I have been running with the plate moved to reduce fuel/boost and I want full fueling back. I am going to drill and tap the compressor housing and install the boost fitting there.

I also have WH1C that was installed from the factory. Go figure.
