LED Lockup Switch ?'s

I already have a lockup switch installed on my '96. I bought an LED toggle switch to help me remember when the lockup switch is on or off. The question I have is where or how to I get power to the switch. The instructions say it can either come from the battery or fuse panel. I would rather not run a wire to the battery just to power the toggle switch. How do you get power to the switch from the fuse panel in the cab???

Do you have gauges? You can just strip the end of the wire and stick it in a fuse spot in the fuse box on the side of the dash. The cig lighter should work.

I used a 12 volt relay and an switch with a led light in it works great. Here is a link to the wiring diagram I posted on another site. this way the light will activate when the switch is on.

If you check at any auto parts store they have " fuse taps" you can install them with a fuse in the cab and tap a line to what ever you want.

The light will not work by just applying 12 volts to the switch I tried to do just that. I talked to my buddy who is an electrician and he told me to use a relay to wire it up or the light in the switch would not work. The above post has the diagram I made up when we did mine and it works. The biggest expense with be the $5 relay.

You can skip the relay by using a double pole single throw switch (DPST)
Use one set of switch contacts to trigger lockup and the other set for the led.

How many amps are being grounded through the switch during lockup?

Very good point. Much easier than doing both a relay and a switch.

I'm curious about his as well.

Also, what exactly is the purpose of the resistor? I already have them, and intend to run one, but I'm curious why.

The resistor I believe is to stop the computer from going into limp mode. Im not sure that it works 100 percent of the time as I have had the truck go into limp mode with the resistor. Nobody knows how many amps are being grounded?
