Leaking priming pump?
My '96 has a non-functioning fuel guage like so many other 12 valves out there and yesterday my teenage daughter found out just how many miles there are in one tank. I have a hard time comprehending how someone can't understand "don't run it over 400 miles on the tripmeter..." Of, mine only gets 487 per tank BTW but that's another thread. Anyway after pressing the priming button under the fuel filter for a couple minutes, man that's not the easiest thing to do, there was fuel on my finger. Is it normal for that to leak? Or did may I have find the culprit or at least a contributing factor to my low mileage? If it needs some attention, what am I looking forward to replacing?

Sorry for your lack of respose, but I think you may have posted this in the wrong section. I really don't know an answer to your problem. I have always had to prime mine following a filter change by bumping the key until the lift pump comes on, but not starting the engine. I do not know if your 12 valve is setup the same or not. As to the leaking diesel, it might be related to the Cummins bulletin relating to the use of ULSD, if that is in your area now. I am waiting for my lift pump to start this, since I ahev had to run a few tanks of ULSD when traveling.

No it isn't normal for the primer to leak. My lift pump started to do this, but I was also having issues with starting after it set all weekend. Air was getting in the lines and I had to prime it.
If you are having issues with starting at all then I would say you may want to replace the lift pump. Overflow valve, rubber fuel lines, etc. could be other culprits for starting problems, but probably wouldn't make THAT much difference in your mileage. What kind of mileage are you getting? (not miles per tank, but miles per gallon) The sender in the tank has some slots that it is supposed to ride up and down on with the level of the tank, but those get worn and it may not be making it all the way down to the bottom.
