Leaking Oil Pan Gasket

Has anyone changed one of these? How hard is it, and what is the best way to do it? Thanks.

From: North Carolina or Kentucky. Take your pick
A pain in you know where!!!! Try tightening the pan bolts and maybe it will slow down or prolong the agony. Could it be the dipstick tube or turbo oil return line???

mine was leaking at the front,i washed it good and applied JB weld along the
gasket area, after appiling the JB weld i covered it with a napkin,to keep it from slumping off.
no leaks and its been months.

Its not that bad. You need to take off the 4,5 and 6 valve covers. Then disconnect the motor mounts and jack the motor up as far as it will go. You can either just change the gasket, OR if you want to pull the pan, you will have to reach in and disconnect the oil pickup, and then the pan will come completely out.

The way I do them, is to block the back wheels and jack the front of the truck up as high as I can get it, place stands on the frame rails about mid door. I remove the front wheels and let the front end hang. Remove the cooling fan and shroud along with the last three valve covers, now you can remove your motor mount bolts and jack the engine out of its seat, remove the pan bolts and drop the pan, reach in to unbolt the pickup tube and pull the pan/tube out as one deal. Its a pain, but not real bad.

No need to mess with tranny other than loosening cross member (I have an auto)? Also my pan is pretty rusty. Anyone have a source for a pan? Thanks, KD
