I really liked the air bags I had on my last truck, 1/2 Ton Chevy 4x4, they were made by Air Lift if I remember right. They added about a ton of carrying capacity when pumped up but didn't hurt the ride when aired down.

An overload sprig is a spring that does nothing until you sag enough to engage the spring. i.e. If your at 500lbs payload it does nothing, but once you hit 1700 or whatever, it compresses the standard spring enough to engage the overload. It can be in 2 styles, one where the bottom spring is very thick and straight on the bottom (ends not touching the upper springs), or with a top spring curved heavily but not attatched to the bottom springs and when the suspension sags it hit a bumpstop engaging the spring. Hope that helps.

The overload is a spring above the main leaf pack that has two bump stops as described above. The main 4 leaf pack is standard, including the thick straight one at the bottom. Some people take the bottom one out to improve the ride a bit. I vote for air bags. I added an extra spring and it made it ride a lot rougher. I don't mind it, but someday I'd like to get rid of it and do some bags.

If anyone wants to come up and trade me for a set of stock leafs , you can have mine... I have 6 or 7 leafs per pack , not overloads , just extras that someone had a spring shop put in... talk about riding rough... I have 1200lbs worth of weight right at the tailgate , for winter , and the truck is just about down to being level now...
