Killer Dowel Pin
Hi Guys
Thanks for the help on the other post on antifreeze...I'm not one to assume anything , I bought this mystrey truck , It has an ats exhaust maifold , I trubo wheel , gauges , new radiator , amsoil duel filtration system , fuel filter relocation , mag-hi-tech or ats deep trans pan , shift kit ...I'm going to take a peek at the coverter today .
I was looking at the motor ... which is spotless and it appears that the timing cover has grey rtv on it ...I hate assume anything but it look as if it was off , is there any other way to kinda peek and see this pin area ...
From all the mode's and maintance on this truck I would say it was done but can not be sure ...I'm at 150,000 .
I wish I could track down the guy that owned it ... Can you beleave I found this on a lot .
Today is change the rear diff fluid and the amsoil system ...I found a local guy that sells amsoil , so I was able to pick the oil and filters yesterday ... not cheap but from what I see and hear it's good stuff.
Thanks guys
Greg

Theres no way of seeing it without the cover pulled - so NO peaking...the cover MUST come off and the balancer must come off too. And, you need to loctite the other bolts under the cover as well.
If you do a search there is days of reading and there should also be instructions. Its about a 4-6 hour job.

greg here you go
There is no way, and i would take no chances with the KDP, here is an honest report using the KDP repair kit..
https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...TST+Repair+kit
Follow directions, good kit
Congrats on ur fine ride greg..
PM me if u have any questions
On EDIT have a cheapy wrench available to grind down to remove the fan, and 10 mm sockets, ratchets, and 15 mm socket for balancer are ur friends...

One more thing greg,
get some green wicking loctite and make sure all the other bolts under the cover are tight as well...they have been known to back out too.

the killer dowel pin
The pin & the cracked block happened to mine at about 140000. I got a new timing cover & patched the block. I probable should have replaced the motor, but Im still running the cracked block at 200000 miles now.

This is the kinda fix that warrants a plate or something.
It'd be nice when a truck is sold if the KDP fix'er could put something in the truck to show it's been done. Maybe in the inside cover of the manual? Something that stays with the truck.

It was a used car lot find ...
I'm not one to buy from from a lot ... most people that trade a truck with all the goodies I got have beat the crap out it .
This was a rare find ...in this condition , It needs a few things , but I will do the dowel pin this week , and I have to address on small oil leak , but I got a great truck for under 10 grand ... and who know maybe I'll sell the Ford 4x4 diesel ...
It's a tuff market out there , I don't see much selling right now , the lot guys wanted 11,700 for the truck ... and they had no idea about all the aftermaket goodies that were on the truck .
I beat them up for 1700 , I pulled out a cash ... they even bought me lunch ...LOL
I use to be in the car business and I do feel bad for them a little , If I did not know my way around a truck , they could have taken me ... I know alot of people in that boat .
Thanks again .

Take the vin # to a dodge dealer and they can tell what was done at dodge dealer and who was the first owner. That might help in finding out more info on the truck.
