KDP Question

KDP Question
Hi all,
If I were to look at a 12v that has not had the KDP taken care of, would a grimy gearcase be a sign of KDP damage? Or would it be more obvious, like a massive crack?
Thanks,
Ian

Usually they bust underneath the fan pulley you cant see it without taking the fan off. The front crankshaft seal usuallyleak on these and is hard to tell if ith that seal or a busted front cover. If they are saying they fixed the kdp they should know if it had already fallen out or not. Theres one bolt under the fan pulley that will either have no threads left in it or broken completely off if the kdp fell out obe time

The current owner of the truck wasn't sure if it had been fixed, but there is a TON of crap plastered over the gearcase.
The truck runs perfectly, so I'm assuming that the KDP hasn't dropped yet (or fell out and dropped into the oil pan). It has 400,000 kms on it....

Re:kdp
I just bought a 97 with 455KL and it had Major I mean Major crap thick Oil caked on the case and underside of the entire truck. I bought it without doing a preliminary check other than a quick run around the block and it was/is still running strong. The price was low but needed alot of work as I found out. O_well most done now.
I have steam cleaned everthing and it is looking pretty good and will be doing the kdp very soon. I was quoted $400.00 to do it at a shop. I am ok with a wrench and would prob do it myself but I have no garage and am in a apt. so..
Anyhow less than 300,000 miles on a 1,000,000 engine is decent life left I would think.

If you can/are willing to do the work yourself you can save about 360 of those dollars with a about 3-6 hours work.
