KDP pin absence??

KDP pin absence??
Does anybody know if its a big deal that im not replacing my KDP pin after its fallen out? Im doing a KDP failure repair and dont have a new pin. Big deal or dont sweat it?? Thanks -Jake

I have always read and heard both sides, one that it is only there for an alignment for assembly, and the other that it actually does bear lateral stress to keep things alligned. I would put a new one in and tab it. Another thought that i have always had is why not tap the hole and put a bolt in with some red lok-tite? That way you KNOW it isn't coming out. Just a thought....

It's important that the case doesn't move to keep your timing set. When you figure the weight of the injection, vacuum and steering pumps plus the torque that the cover is under to turn these pumps you realize that the more devices to keep the case in place the better. There are actually two dowel pins, I wouldn't put one back together without both of the $2 pins.
