Ditto, no need to tab, just a little peening will do.

You drill and tap a hole in the side of the gear case and install a bolt that blocks the dowel pin from coming out. The jig bolts to the engine to insure the correct angle and depth of the hole.
Advantage to the jig is it's quick and easy.

Jig bolt blocking dowel pin.

Not if you do it right.
What you do is pressurize the crankcase though either the oil fill or dipstick tube with an air compressor (5psi max) or a vacuum cleaner on blow with the blowby tube plugged.

They do over at TDR but the shipping for a jig coming and going usually costs more than it does to buy your own from Harold at rvhvnfn@juno.com or 208 850-8749

You could also try PMing member Wannadiesel, https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...=newpm&u=21682 he jigs dowel pins for fun, believe he is in the NE.

Tabbed it 3.5 years ago. Cut the tab myself. Pin barely moved, if at all. Also applied some wicking loctite.

I just tabbed mine tonight with my kit from tst, holy cow that was easy. The KPD was sticking out maybe 1/16 of an inch.

the worst part was cleaning all the crap off my timing cover.

You didnt have an option listed for me. Mine fell out. I had no idea that is what it was. It ran for a good hour before I pulled it apart and found out it was the dowel pin All it did was make racket, and it fell out on the floor when I pulled the timing cover off. It is now tabbed and back in its home with a lesson learned "ill get to it someday soon" may not be soon enough

I had to replace the timing case on mine, which has the "stepped" dowel pin hole... keeps it from walking out in the future. I also put a new dowel pin in the block... installed with red loctite.
