KDP got me!!!!!!!

Re:KDP got me!!!!!!!
Great time to do it pprash. You have to use a mirror to see the pin with the rad and shroud in. Lots easier on the arms not having to fight around the shroud. Install the seal before you put the timing cover on. I didn't and it was a b**ch. Good luck.

Re:KDP got me!!!!!!!
The KDP is a dowel pin in the front of the motor behind the timing cover that over time walks out of the hole in which it is pressed into from the factory. When the dowel pin falls out, if your lucky, just breaks the timing cover and then you just have a large puddle of oil under your truck. If your not so lucky-read as most of the time-the dowel pin falls out and finds its way into the timing gears and does all kinds of hellacious damage! Just surf around the site a while and you might find some pictures of the carnage this little pin is capable of.

Richard,

Thanks for the reply. Now can you or someone else tell me where to look or how to find it. I do have the factory service manual, perhaps someone can tell me a page or paragraph in there so I can find this. Both my trucks are here now for the holidays and it would be a good time to do the repairs.

Thanks.

Thanks guys for your help. After spending the last couple of hours reading your info and checking various web sites, I have figured out where it is and what may be the best way to tackle it.

Is there a way to determine the pins current position without removing the cover?

Re:KDP got me!!!!!!!
I guess if you lose you KDP and it cracks the gear housing then you are sunk and need to send it to a diesel mec. Is that right. My friend lost his and there is a small crack. he adds a 1/2 qt a week. it is not too bad but he wants to do it himself because his money is really tight. he just got married to a HOT chick and has very little money. he even did not have christmas because of his money problems.
what is the price to fix this and is there any way to weld it until he can get some money?
thanks for me and my friend
DM01
P/S don't tell his wife but I bought his wife a gift for him because he is my best friend

Re:KDP got me!!!!!!!
The crack in the housing will continue to migrate until the housing cracks in half ... there is about 100# of injection/vacuum/steering pump hanging from that housing.

TI have pics but i need to figure out how to resize them to get them to fit on here.

If you have a photo editor, open the picture in the editor. Resize the picture to not over 7 inches, then set the resolution at 72 dpi and save. Some editors have an option of save for the web. This option sets resolution for you at 72 dpi.
I use Photoshop Elements (Adobe) You probably have a basic editor which came with your camera.
