Injector Help - What is the best Combo??

Ok heres the deal. Once I get my truck running right, I want to add some power. I have been looking into what paths I have to take. I am not comletely "Diesel Dumb" . I have an Idea of how much power I am looking for. I want to keep power in the range of my stock Clutch. If I would have been smart when replacing my BURNT CLUTCH I would have forked up the extra $150 or so and went with a South Bend Clutch instead of the stocker.

I am looking for somewhere in the range 650lb-ft and 280hp(both figures at rear wheels). I Figured the best way to get there was with a combination of a fuel plate and injectors, instead of just a TST 280hp plate.

Now this is where my question comes in. I was looking at the TST Fuel plate Kit for 605lb-ft and 230hp ,and the AFC spring kit,(I have read this combo dynoed at 550lb-ft and 250hp rear wheel). Now, What injectors to use. There are so many. I was looking at getting "Genuine Bosch" injectors. I have seen 215's ,300's and 370's. What are the differences. Which ones give more power? Which ones would work good for Me? I am open to any other suggetions any one may have ?

OH!! I also plan to add the basics first: Guages, High flow air intake(in the works), and a 4" straight pipe exhaust(also in the works)

Does this sound Like a good combo for a modest reliable power boost??

Any input is Appeciated ;D

The stock injectors you have in your truck with a #12 or #11 plate will be just fine for what you want.
The engine you have uses a great injector from the factory.

I got over 350HP with the stock ones in my truck.

Change the exhaust turbine housing first to a 16CM non wastegated and drop in an 11 plate and you will be right at the limit of the stock clutch.

Save a few bucks a month to get the 5th gear repaired/updated.

Don~
What are the advantages to a non-wastegated turbo? I thought you wanted a wastegate to get rid of that built up boost pressure to prevent surge.

No, not in this case. If you dont use anything larger than a 12 plate you can keep the stock turbine housing.

Don~

Re:Injector Help - What is the best Combo??

I just figured I'd add my 2 cents. I have a '96 and I am not believeing the whole "stock clutch will hold a #11 plate" story. I admit I slid mine foward but that stock clutch didn't have a prayer and the truck only had 28,000 miles on it. I removed the mufler and cat and added a 16cm2 housing with the hope of lowering EGT's and it helped some but only delayed the buried gauge by a few seconds. Again I have my plate all the way foward and I know that is part of my problem, as soon as I get the time I am going to put it where it belongs but it is hard to go back after having the extra power. My truck is stock except for what you see in my sig and I am VERY happy with it. I had a '97 auto before with 4.11's and a plate and it was an animal but this 5 speed with 3.54's is a monster. Bang for the buck you can't beat a fuel plate, you can always stack injectors on top of the plate later (after a good clutch goes in). The combo you are thinking of sounds pretty good to me, you'd be amazed at what a difference a plate can make.

John

Re:Injector Help - What is the best Combo??

Hey Don M,
Are you some sort of diesel tech or someth'in, you seem to know a mighty lot about the cummins, I was just reading your post on the p7100 and DAAMMNNN. What do you think would be the best combo to get me in the 650lb-ft and 280hp range other than just a #11 plate. Like I said the exhaust and intake mods will all be in place.
Thanks

Re:Injector Help - What is the best Combo??

I currently have a #11 about 3/4 of the wy forward, and no clutch slipping at all. I had the plate full forward for a while, but EGTs were too high for towing. 7500' elevation didn't help the EGTs either.
My G-tech tells me I have 260 h, 580 tq, both rear wheel. Hope this helps.
Mark
