Its not even worth the hassle. Now going from 4:10s to 3:54s would be worth it or vice versa...

I drove several trucks with the 410 rear gear and it just kills the top end, especially if your engine isn't able to turn 3000 RPM. I changed to a 372 Pro Loc and just love it. Better towing, drag racing, and all over street and freeway driving.

i have 4:10's and hate the freeway rpm's. thinking about changing the gear ratio, so 3:54's would be better? i don't race just tow about 8,000 pounds 10 or 15 times a year.

For your towing

the 3.54's will do more than suffice... Look at my gallery what i tow every so often, and with the first gear low, the 3.54s still tow it well.....

The 3.54 is awesome on the highway... i love it!!

Highway towing with 3:54"s are great with 8 to 10,000 Lbs.Highway towing with 4:10's suck, especially if you are outside of california.Love my 4:10's if I am in the mountains!!

I love my 3:54's. I haul quite a bit in the summer too. I just wish my first gear was lower sometimes(like it would feel with 4:10's) for getting a load rolling, but it doesent bother me much, and i have an auto which has a lot higher first gear than the manuals. Plus this sweet tight converter makes for a bigger smoke show before i get boost Its cool sometimes, and sometimes its aggrovating. Ill hopefully soon be putting back on my 12cm housing though which will take care of most of that i think.

Thanks, I'll put 373 ratio, because I have to tow Fifthwheel of 14,000 pounds, and automatic transmission. My rpm top is 2500. Is it good for you?

To tow a 14,000# trailer I would recommend a min. of 300 - 350HP at the rear wheels. I towed 11,500 stock and it was a turd with the trailer. I boosted it up to 250 HP at the rear wheels and that was better but still slow still. I then dynoed at 383 HP and at that point the truck was very easy to dirve and towing was enjoyable. The truck was more fun to drive at that point, than at any other time even the present.

What you done to increase to 383 hp. for 96-diesel dodge 5.9L, automatic transmission. The fuel pump is mechanic! it's 12 valve engine!

Bercol, Take a look at my sig. and you will see that with a little work you can get some decent power out of these 12v engines. Check you timing, put in a #10 plate, and a 3GSK and you would be amazed as to how much more fun your truck will be to drive.
BTW, I don't have a GSK (yet).

This is what I like about having the Cummins , keeping the ratio like 3:54s for MPGs and easly upping the HPs for towing , unless real heavy in mountans .

Hay Cumminsdriver , if you had to do it again would you put parts in the trans. or go for a complete one of the three builders ? I'm close to doing more and the trans. has to be 1st.
