Idle Speed changing

My truck will sometimes start and run at normal idle speed then after it warms up the idle speed will increase sometimes up to 1300 rpms

Then for no reason it will go back to the normal speed.
Even when the speed changes the engine is running smooth just too fast

The engine is stock. I am running grease and I know that it might be related to the grease. IT runs the same with Diesel.

Could a leaking injector cause this?
Also the first time it happened was right after I got on the Skinny pedal real hard.
it is a 96 3500 AT

Welcome to DTR!

the only things that i can think of that cause this are the governer springs, however if your truck is completely stock, then that can be cancelled out. What you are experiencing is called governer bounce. It happens on mine, and its supposed to happen to high horsepower 12 valves (least ive heard) but mine is moderate at best in the HP department.. Mine will idle at 800 or so with the AC on at times, and others right at 750 with AC on, without the AC on this truck will sometimes idle as high at 950 or so rpms, or pretty close to 1000.

Since ur truck is an auto tranny its supposed to idle at about 900 or so rpms in park, in drive it can be anywhere in the ballpark i described above. I see nothing wrong with it, at best, it eliminates the mirrors vibrating as well and sounds as cool as a 24 valve engine but again different strokes for different folks...

might be something internally with the governor assembly.

Have you had the throttle cable recall done?
The cable can become frayed under it's sheath and stick.
You can check which recalls have been done on your truck here, you will need your VIN number http://www.dodge.com/webselfservice/...m('R')

Thanks

I did the cable when I first got the truck. There was only one strand left.

I think I may have fixed it. I will see tomarrow. I hosed down the accerator linkage near the Idle set bolt and where the cable attaches with WD-40. and the Idle seems to stay at 650 rpm. the Skinny pedal is alot easyer to press now. so there may have been some Crap in there binding it up.
