My throttle wasn't fully opening only allowing me 2700-2800 rpm instead of the 3200 i should get. I adjusted the linkage going to the back of the pump. Now it idles around 1000 rpms is there a way to adjust the idle or do i need to adjust the linkage back alittle.

 

u can adjust the idle

behind the injection pump there is an idle adjustment screw, U need 2 10 mm wrenches to get to it, one to loosen the nut at the bottom, and the other one to adjust and turn the screw to get ur idle to where it needs to be. If you have long arms, this will come easy for you, if not, well the best way to tackle it is with a step ladder from the left side of teh truck.. FWIW , I find it MUCH easier to lay ontop of the engine and look straight down the back of the pump , you can actually SEE what your doing there , instead of doing it by feel only.

 

I have an addition to make to step 3. .....

It talks about using a 5 gal bucket to stand on from the drivers side while you adjust. What it fails to mention is the part when you are are on the 5 gal pail and you slip and the pail pops out from under your feet and you smash your chin on the battery terminals.

 

Is this part of the step mandatory, or purely optional?
