The UV dye glows when hit with a blacklight, at work we have a big blacklight, the bulb looks like an outdoor flood lamp, but you can get very good resultd with one of these .I use the blue bulb for ck`ing uv dye on a/c leaks where the "big" light does`nt fit. The Streamlight Stylus is around 25 bucks or so. I got mine from my tool dealer (SnapOn/Mac) but according to Streamlights web sight they have dealers all over. The dye makes it easier to spot where the leak originates from. Hope that helps.

Wouldn't the die just go all over the place where the oil goes or does it only glow around the edges where it originates or something?

It will go wherever the oil goes but it makes it ALOT easier (ususally) too see where the leak is originating from. For instance, you add the dye to the oil, run the engine till it leaks (in your case not very long huh?), shut it off and hit the oily mess with the blacklight. With any luck you will be able to see where it`s coming from because the oily mess will now glow when the light hits it. It`s not as hard I am making it sound (I stink at `splainin things sometimes, lol).

Main oil rifle

Sorry for not getting back earlier. That is exactly what that small cup plug is for. Main oil rifle. I thumbed through a different Cummins manual and seen the lube/oil flow diagram, showed that cup plug. Time to drop the tranny. At minimum replace the throwout bearing, if the money is there, a new South Bend clutch.

All I know for sure is what that cup plug is, not that it's your problem. One way or another you need to pull the tranny and or engine to solve it.

Yup it was the main oil rifle for sure! Right when I was taking the adapter plate off the block oil started running down and then when I pulled it away the little plug fell on the ground. Kinda really peaves me off doing all this work for a little fricken plug!

How come I have never heard of this problem with anyone else? Do I get to go down in the books for being the first one it happened too?
