How much CFM will stock intercooler flow?
I was wondering how much CFM of air volume a stock intercooler on my 1997 dodge cummins will flow. A performance shop told me that most aftermarket coolers flow about 1000 CFM.

Then the stock one will flow about 1000 cfm, although you really do need to define what circumstances that was tested at. Aftermarket intercoolers aren't designed to flow more (since the head is the bottleneck anyway), but to cool better. And they do that, marginally. Bang for buck, an aftermarket intercooler is a waste of money.

Here's an intersting thought (a little off topic maybe): We're always trying to improve air flow any way we can.... ever see the inside of a catalytic converter? Compare size wize to your intercooler and try to imagine ramming 1000cfm of air through the honey comb in that thing! No wonder people pull them out.
