Gauges yet?? Seriously though, a 0 plate has enough fuel down low to get things hot in hurry, especially if you have not taken care of wastegate control.
On that note though.. here is some info..

As for my turbo and wastgate I have a hy35 off a 01 that I put on for now, as my factory turbo was shot when I bot the pickup.
Is there any thing I can do too the wastgate on this turbo?

Get an adjustable boost elbow - TST is a good source - it will make the waste gate stay shut a bit and build more boost.
EDIT: I may be off on the boost elbow - can't recall if that turbo takes a boost elbow or a j-hook. The end result is the same, the gate will stay shut, allowing more boost. TST sells both.
Limit it to maybe 30 lbs - should be reasonably safe.
Get the gauges installed so you know if its gonna melt, then have fun.
Might also spend some time reading up on tuning the AFC. There is a lot of power and drive-ability that can be had at the same time. You can tune these things to have power with minimal smoke if you work at it.
On the original question, turning up the timing to about 15 or 16 degrees is pretty good for a street truck that is daily driven. It can be done by setting the motor to TDC, then removing the pump gear, and setting the lift on the number one hole to a known height that corresponds to the desired degree of timing. There are several write ups that you can find from the search function. Tools for this adventure will run in the ballpark of 150 dollars, so it might be worth locating a mechanic if you don't intend to set it more than once.

If you could source out an HX35 for now it would be better than the HY35. Its got a very small exhaust side and makes the EGT's climb fast. And the wastegate on those are hard lined, so you would need to do the J-hook thing where you actually bind it closed. Problem is that it never opens and you can get into an overboost situation with that turbo. They don't live long over the 35psi mark at all.
There are some good write ups on that Dieselram.org site on it.
