How do I clean,"flush" my radiator

There is a brown film or rust on inside of radiator cap entrance and system hasn't been cleaned for years. What steps do I do to get system clean what kind of cleaner and antifreeze do I use.
I guess I first drain from the petcock, but w will that get all the liquid out? Do I put a hose on petcock and fill with water, reverse flush? Do I add some kind of store bought chemical :'( :'( :'( :'( and let run for a while, drain again and add water and antifreeze? I think it takes 3 gallons of antifreeze or the whole system is 3 gal....HELP!!

Easier to have someone else do it professionally. It is a pain in the ***.

Re:How do I clean,"flush" my radiator

I agree with srigs. I took mine down to an oil can henry's on sunday's and after I'd taken a few of my cars there the kid just does things for free for me. I just brought down a couple of gallons of antifreeze and the kid used the machine that completely sucks out all of the factory fluid. You can tell, all of the hoses are collapsed due to the suction! Anyway, then I put in the two gallons (don't forget to save 1/4 of gallon for the overflow resevoir) added two more gallons of water and voilla! Done! I figure that the kids only out the time to suck out the fluid.....so, buy the two gallons of prestone, go into a descent oil place on SUNDAY when they're usually bored and ask a guy to just remove the fluid for you. Can't cost you much. Maybe $25? Anyway...good luck!

TJ

Thanks y'all, Tried one place that's open Sunday, but they don't suck the liquid out-only drain it. I'll do it Mon.

No O'Henry oil places around here. I like the idea where they take it all out through suction and the hoses collapse.

Re:How do I clean,"flush" my radiator

Took it down to Super Lube and was going for the $59. deal where they suck it all out. Bad thing was their suction machine only holds about 2 1/2 gal and after they filled it they shut it off to drain their machine and all the air came back in the 6 gal system. They could never get the rest of the antifreeze out. So I filled and drained myself..filled and drained...ran...filled and drained, reversed filled from petcock a couple of times....looks brand new and of course it was a pain, but it wasn't brain surgeon stuff.
