Home made posi lock??
Not trying to be tight but I just spent 200.00 on my t-case and I still have the grinding noise . I finally figured out that the noise is coming from the CAD. Thats what I originally figured it could only be ( but I got side tracked on the broken snapring thing and broke parts of my t-case taking it apart). So now I would like to try and save some money and build one myself. I have searched and searched and have not found anything.

let me get this straight, you want to try and build a limited slip diffential for your diff?
I don't think so. you can weld it solid but it'll be a spool, no differential action. thats cheap. a positraction device is not something that you build at home in your garage with spare parts. thats why you can't find anything about it.
If you can't afford to buy one at this time. I suggest wait until you can. find a stock unit at a wrecker. they're pretty good. used cheaper than new.

I think he is talking about the posi-lok cable kit for the cad rather than the vacuum actuator. I gotta tell you, I tried to build my own first, but couldn't get it to work right. The cable system was the best money I have spent on mine. If you've got grinding though, you might want to check the collar and then ends of the shafts before you spend the money on the cable kit. If any of those are worn, you won't fix it with the cable.

Thanks , I should have said cable. With the cad turned around and the collar locked in I don`t get any grinding noise. With the cad bolted in the right way , I get grinding noise like the collar is trying to engage. I was hoping the posi-lok cable will hold the collar in place. I don`t want to spend any money replacing the factory setup. I would rather spend a little more and buy the posi -lok.

You might be fine then. Might just be a weak actuator and it isn't holding the collar all the way on. Depending on how much it's done that though, the ends of the shafts may be sloped where the collar has grinded trying to engage. If that's the case, I don't think the cable will hold it either. Best to check those parts out first. If there okay then posi-lok is the way to go.

Posi-lok is a cable system that replaces the vacuum actuator on the front axle or CAD in our trucks. It allows you to manually lock the front axle in. It also allows you to have 2WD low since you can use the transfer case without locking the front axle.
4x4posi-lok.com is the general website, from there you can buy or get links to other dealers. I bought mine from discountjeepparts.com, they were cheaper than anyone else at the time. Best money I've spent on mine, especially since I had been through 2 of the vacuum actuators already. Nice to know that it is locked in rather than think that it should be.
