high idler ?

Re:high idler ?
The high idle should not be adjusted without a flow bench. The low idle is adjusted by the small bolt that sticks straight up and down on the back of the pump, you will see the stop for the linkage.

Your recommended low idle is posted on the CPL plate just below and beside the injection pump, on the front gearcase.

I make 10 -15 stops a day, and plan on leaving it running, ussually 10 minutes or less but sometimes its 30 minutes, an hour etc....

1320,

Shoot an email to Harold Bower - rvhvnfn@juno.com. Harold makes a high idle kit for the 12 valves. It consists of an adjustable solenoid that mounts to the timing cover, wires and a switch that can be mounted in the cab. I just got mine and am getting ready to install. Looks like it will work great!

T-Bone

I fabbed up my own with a piece of 1/8" plate and a solenoid off of a GM Rochester QuadraJet. The power comes from an ignition on hot wire. Then speed is adjustable by turning the plunger in or out. Sorry for the picture quality.

A diesel will not wash down the cylinder walls like a gas engine. If your idle is between 800 and 950 the oil pump will provide enough pressure to the piston coolers to oil the cylinder walls just fine.

If you want a fast warm up for cold weather, put on an exhaust brake and close it when you first start. The engine will fully warm up in about two minutes.
