HI......new guy.......Looking to buy a 12 valve ext. cab

Hey, this site was recommended to me by a few friends around the internet. Looking for a daily driver 12 valve, manual trans., ext. cab. Would prefer long bed.

The only thing I know about problem areas is the trackbar. Any other problem places/inspections to perform other than a solid test drive, overall checking out?

Thanks for any advice!

do searches on

1. killer dowel pin or KDP
2. 5th gear, 5th gear nut

98's are the rare ones.....98 = quad cab (4 doors, rear two open as suicide doors) 97 and bebore are club cabs, no rear doors.
98's got the new interior also....

Not to be picky, but not all 98's have the quad cab....

The 12 V's are a great choice - relatively no problems compared to the newer models - if you can find a good truck thats been taken care of, the body will fall off before the engine quits.

96, 97 & maybe 98 (someone can chime in) with the 5 speed have 215hp pumps. Great pump for making lots of fuel.

Calif may be an exception.

It took a year of looking to find the one in my sig. I bought it in Feb. High Demand? Yes! And I probably paid top dollar for it, but it was clean and dent free.

i got lucky with mine. i was actually not even thinking about getting a dodge and i was driving around on my 3rd day of looking for a new truck. Saw a nice chevy gasser and pulled into the lot, then i saw the dodge and thought it looked sweet (had aftermarket wheels and 35's) then i saw it was a diesel so i had to take a test drive. Drove it and loved it, decided to take it home that day....had no idea i got the "rare" 98 quad cab 12v 5 speed. That was after ONE HOUR of looking during that day. got mine for $12,700 body is perfect, along with interior and just had a ton of work done..valve adjusting, u joints, front and rear seals replaced, new clutch. Whew i love this truck. Keep looking and you'll find what you want.

sorry forgot to add its got 150k on it. and thats with 35's and no speedo correction, so it may be more depending on how long the PO had these size tires on. i'm not worried though

$12,7 for 98 quad 5spd! Wow that is a killer deal. Out here in the west, $12,7 buys you an ex-construction truck. Something not dented up is still $17+.

My dent-free virgin with 90k cost me $18.

I found a "98" 12 Valve Quad Cab short box with a auto. less than 90 k an it and only gave $18 for it. I did not know they even made a short box in "98".
