Helping a friend with his 94 12v auto

My friend was told that if he adjusted the long dog leg shaped rod that connects the throttle with the TPS that it would firm up his ***** so he pulled if off (by hand) and unscrewed each end a few turns and put it back on. It totally worked, delayed and firmed up the shifts (even the soft 2-3) as good or better than my valve body does! But now he is saying that the pedal bottoms out at around 1/2 throttle no matter how hard he presses. I personally have never played with this linkage, I suspect its like a old school kick down linkage on a carbureted gasser but could use some help on this one
Is there a stock length to get him back to where it was?

You're not supposed to have that linkage adjusted to anything except 5".

Perfect thank you Infidel That is exactly what I was needing! We just tired screwing them all the way in for kicks and now its back to soft shifts and climbing the driveway in 2nd gear. Will post up a follow-up as soon as the rain stops
