Help! Mayday! Help! 94 dodge major timeing problems!!!

Sorry i havent gotten back sooner. I tapped and threaded the banjo bolt and found that the pressure was bouncing from 0 to 60 with no real change at higher speeds. Which leads me to believe that the fuel pressure is spiratic and unregulated. I changed the lift pump thinking that this was the problem. This was not the case. The truck performed the same as it had before the change in lift pumps. I examined the old lift pump to see if there was a blockage in the screen. I did not see such evidence. I am at a loss. Im not sure if there is any other causes for my problems. I dred that it may be the injection pump. Thoughts? Thanks.

Food for thought. Where the fuel lines exit the tank, on the module, the lines are steel. It would not shock me to see the feed line elbow rotted through, and pulling air while the lift pump is working. A cracked or rotten pickup tube will do the same thing.
Also check the fuel connector lines at the left rear of the engine, where they make the transition from frame to engine hard lines. These can, and do wear out.

I just re-read the whole thread and my head is spinning. A lot of work has been done to your truck since you tried to fix an oil leak. Pump came off, timing slipped, head came off, new injectors went in, overflow valve in wrong place, new lift pump...,
I still don't beleive the injection pump had any reason to crap out, unless you ran it for long with the overflow on the inlet port. I don't know how it ran at all that way. OR some junk got into the pump while it was coming out, clenliness is key.
What was your procedure for the head gasket install? My last resort IF you know you are getting good fuel at the right time is putting the original injectors back in (where did new ones come from?) testing compression while you're there. Hook up temporary fuel line to a jug to make sure you aren't sucking air.

Before i go back and recap. Let me ask you this. If any of my fuel lines are pulling air but not leaking could this cause my white smoke and wacky bucky? When i turn the key and crank the motor it starts up fine and throttles up to 1800 rpm fine. I wonder if when i throttle up past that and call for more fuel if im pulling air in?. I had a 6.5 turbo diesel that had rusty injector lines that didnt leak but would pull air in and run like ****. I changed the lines and never had another problem. On my 5,9 the injector lines are slightly brown in a few spots. Not sure if takeing them on and off could have caused and issues, Or maybe the lines to the tank moved enough to cause a problem. My truck was a former plow rig so there is some rust.

You could be pulling air in, however it won't pull air on the injector line since they are a pressure line, it would only pull air on the line going between the lift pump and the tank (suction line) best way to check to see if that is the issue is to hook a new short line up to the lift pump and run it into a jug of fuel and see how it runs then.

If that solves it, I would run rubber lines all the way to the tank, marine grade diesel will last forever. You will also need to make sure the lines coming out of the fuel module aren't mostly rotted off, that is a common issue as well.

Just one question does your fuel gauge work? I had to drop fuel tank and replace whole sending unit with a new one. Truck ran real ruff fuel gauge didn't read right pulled sending unit out of tank the metal that surrounds unit was all corroded with rust and it was also in tank. Cleaned everything out replaced sending unit with a new one problem was solved. Also cleaned filter down by the primer bulb where the lift pump is screen was filled up with the rust from sending unit. Truck ran like a new truck fuel mileage jumped up big time also with that being done.

Come to think of it ya. My gauge doesn't work every once in a while it would move going down hill and stopping. I thought that it was that the float sunk. Well after this test i will know for sure. Than i can proceed to put a new sending unit and lines in.

I ran the truck out of a clean fuel can today and found that it had no real effect on my engines condition. It still smoked of pure white. Im gonna perform another test that was brought to my attention. Pulling the heating core out of the fuel heater and then clean the screen. I want to try every possible avenue before i look to the injection pump.

Yes indeed! Come to find out the timeing was about 14 degrees off. We dicided to just advance the timeing and see if it improved. We thought what do we have to loose. We advanced it a little at a time. Whote smoke turned to black smoke and it runs great now. Working on getting a flat bed on it know. So glad i got the truck running right.
