nice actuator but slowwwww 4 seconds full open and close and the gearing inside may be plastic that doesn't like heat

Yes, it needs to be pretty quick. Here's a quick snippet on how the VNT operates (I know it's not the same turbo as yours, but all VNT's work the same): http://www.honeywell.com/sites/ts/tt...s_VNTworks.htm

If the throat is reduced at low engine speed and you nail it - the turbo is almost instantly flooded with exhaust gasses. If the Actuator doesn't react right away - like almost milliseconds - your turbo will over-speed and produce a tremendous amount of boost in a second. On the VNT Deere tractors, (not sure about the new Cummins) when you turn the key on, one of the engine checks it does is to cycle the VNT actuator. It cycles it all the way, pauses, then cycles it back. Each way takes less than a second to reach full travel - the whole cycle is less than two seconds. I believe the reaction speed needs to be pretty quick.
The VNT isn't a waste gate - it doesn't just control boost at high pressure, it regulates boost right from 0psi up to the top end.

According to that link, it is possible to use a mechanical actuator. I'd look into that if you want simple....

each turbo operates interdependently in terms of boost and opening of the waste gate because there is a timing differential with them you want one to open just before the other one

HE351VE install and controller thread for 12 valve Cummins-turbo-actuator.jpg
here is my latest idea
using a small pneumatic cylinder a spring and a 2 way line solenoid my thought is to use boost pressure override spring tension...much like a wastegate actuator but use the same cylinder with vacuum to actuate the Exh Brake. shud be able to find this cylinder at work keep you posted!

Yeah, I know, it's on the list of things that will get fixed in the next few months when I upgrade the brakes, fix the steering pump, flush the heater core, etc...
