Have you heard anything about SmartParts rebuilt nv4500?

Just shopping around for options on repairing or replacing my nv4500 with the 5th gear issue. I came across the following website:

http://www.smartpartsauto.com/manual...500_dodge.html

Have any of you heard about these guys? $1,075 seems to be too cheap for a completely rebuilt nv4500 with updated main shaft. Called them today and they are out of Dallas and claim it's legit. Any insight would be appreciated.

I am also considering just doing the 5th gear repair using a retainer.

Last idea was to find a nv5600 as I pull a lot here in the Rockies and would love six gears. Any "known" issues with the nv5600?

Thanks again for all your help,

Clark

That does sound too cheap. My experience has been if it doesn't sound right, it will probably bite you in the end. I'm not too keen on buying "completely rebuilt" transmissions off a website anyhow with out a reputation, who knows what kind of parts they use. If I was on a tight budget and needed a new trans I'd try it though.

This guy sells them for $995 through EBAY under the same smartparts name. I was looking at them for my '98, but traded the truck first. He has 100% feedback. You can look up the dodge NV4500 and you'll find his listings. Pull up his name and look at the feedbacks. You have to look through them to find the buyers, but you can email them and find out if they are still satisfied. He says he has the lastest updates for the 5th gear. I think I would have bought one if I hadn't traded the truck.

I needed an nv4500 for my 1998 Dodge Dually. I also was skeptical of there low price. Ive been on a tight budget so I decided to go with Smart Parts. I put the transmission in about 5 months ago and so far i have had no problems. In fact it might just be me but it seems to be shifting a little smoother. I bought the one on there website. I also saw the one on ebay and it was a little cheaper but from what I hear the one on the website has more upgrades and a little better warranty.

That smartparts sounds like a good deal I got sick and tired of dealing with these trans issues and I just spent $2,800 for a reman Jaspar NV4500 with a 100,000 waranty.
