Has anyone had tons of white smoke at start
On my 97 I am getting tons of white smoke at start up. The truck has only 99K on it. I have to keep the pedal on the mat just to keep it idiling and while it spits and sputters it bellows white smoke. After 15-20 seconds it cleans itself out and the truck runs normal. Which is more likely...a blown head gasket or stuck injector. The truck has never been overheated. Could one stuck injector cause me this much of a problem??
How hard is it to install a complete set of new injectors? Can anyone recommend a good injector supplier and a recommended size??

It sounds like you have a leak in your fuel system and air is getting in the system. Start by checking the rubber fuel lines at the firewall. If you search the forum you will find tons of information. My truck did it too and I changed the lines and the problem was solved.

I would run new rubber lines from engine to tank, the factory lines switch from rubber to steel and back again. The steel ones corrode and let air in and the rubber ones dry out and let air in.I would also check your fuel heater, they will allow air in at the electrical connection when they get hard and dry.

injectors are really easy to install. but I agree with everyone else that it sounds like air in your fuel lines. Also on injection pump side of the motor near the back by the fuel filter kind of under part of the intake or head theres a rubber hose about 4 or so inches long. That one goes. It went on both of our trucks. There moulded houses so you might want to get the right ones from the dealer or possibly cummins to make your life easyer.

i have that same problem but only when the truck is cold.... my grid heaters are disconnected though because they keep draining the batteries even though i replaced the solenoid switch thing on the inner fender...... not sure what else to do so i just keep it plugged in when it's cold outside and it makes a huge difference

Just an FYI incase you weren't aware, there is a smaller relay on the firewall beside the brake booster that controls the 2 large relays on the fender for the grids.
