The grey gaskets are the new, improved item. I was advised to use them by my local Cummins store. I replaced the old black gaskets and now there's no leak.

if you guys want some cheap valve cover gaskets , go to your local case ih dealer , i don't have the part # on me (i was assistant parts manager) and get a set of vavle cover gaskets for a 5100 series , or 5200 series , even some of the mx series used them .
and an MX 150 uses the same inj pump as the 97 12 valves , maybe more , not shure.

Grey valve cover gaskets
I use the Cummins grey gaskets all the time have never had one leak yet. I always replace the gaskets when the valve covers are off, They may leak if they are reused.

The gray ones are the new and improved gaskets from Cummins.... and I hate them with a passion! They suck!
Of course they're not going to leak, they're new, and as long as you never take them off or never do a valve adjustment, they'll probably last you forever. The new style gaskets turn real gummy and stretch out after oil has touched them.
But as I'm always competing with my truck, I'm always taking the valve covers off making adjustments and such, or mostly when I'm working on other peoples trucks. I hate it because they no longer fit the covers right and don't go back on well at all.
The old black rubber gaskets would be fine and go 80-100k before they would crack or leak. I know DiPaco's gakets are still black rubber.

i put a set of the new grey ones on mine about 10k ago, what a PITA they swell up and won't fit back on. i mean forget reusing them. they did seal well when i first put them on. but i don't like the idea of buying a set of gaskets evey time i set the valves.
