Governor arm adjustment and 10 plate

Governor arm adjustment and 10 plate
Right now, with the solenoid up, my arm hits the bottom of the plate and slides up from there. It looks to be right on the bottom, not sliding under. I want to increase my bottom end. Will adjusting the arm so it hits the plate higher up do this? How much? Thanks in advance.

I don't think it will help at all if the arm is not sliding under the bottom of the plate. Adjust the starwheel towards the motor a few more clicks and that will give you more fuel on the bottom end. A lighter AFC spring may also help if you have already adjusted the starwheel.

Star wheel won't do as much as a properly adjusted governor arm. You could be close to where it should be. Take it for a ride and see how much boost you are getting if it is above 34 lbs you are still to low. If it is below 34 lbs you are to high.

OK, thanks for the replies. I have the plate almost all the way forward, back about 1/16" or so, the starwheel forward to where it is just starting to disappear. I push 40 psi on the stock turbo and from what I have read, it is a bit high. HOW do you get the *&$# two slotted screws off. The wire has been cut. I have the fuel filter off so I have a bit more room, but those guys are on TIGHT! PB Blaster is soaking as I write. When and if I get them off, I will replace them with hex bolt.

Use a pair of vice grips. Just take out the out board bolt don't lose the flat washer. loosen the in board bolt but don't take all the way out, and the plate will fall out of the way. After lossening the lock nut (10mm) turn the adjusting nut clock wise in to make the arm go up. By the time you have done this you will realize that it is so easy even a blind man could do it.

Ok, thanks for the heads up. I had seen the same symbols used before, so I assumed that it would be not a problem.
Yeah, a blind person would probably be better for this job. Next time I will do it in the middle of the night, no moon, be just as easy.
Now, I am not too sure how much movement is necessary for a different response in the fueling. I raised it about 1/16", or the thickness of the arm itself. More? I will finish the work tomorrow, out of time tonight.

I have same truck as yours, I wanted more bottom end and I found the answer in bigger injectors.
I bought a set of Stage 2 PDI on Ebay and I cannot be any happier, price was $ 220.00 shipped, no scary smoke, and a lot of low end torque, exactly what I wanted.
I played with wheel, governor, etc, but still not what I wanted until injectors came in.

I am sure you guys are right about the injectors, and they are on the wish list. There is a lot of info about injectors and making a decision is not easy. I am just playing around with the pump, seeing if more can be squeezed out of it with a arm adjustment. I have everything apart and the arm adjusted, but I want to wait until Monday and make a few calls, then button it all up. I will post the results on this thread. Any other ideas and thoughts are always welcome. Thanks for all of your help.

You can adjust the governor arm to hit higher on the fuel plate, deeper part of the fuel plate curve. Allowing the arm to hit higher on the plates curve for more bottom end fuel will also mean that defueling will happen sooner as well. 40 lbs of boost is high for a stock turbo and stock head gasket. Some have got away with this amount of boost some haven't. Like others have said injectors will give more fuel and more boost.

On a #10 plate you have to remember that if you move the arm up too far, you will hit the de-fuel curve on the plate lower in the RPM band as well. So when it used to pull out at 2700, it will start to fall off lower say 2500.. I adjusted mine up, only due to the fact under low rpm starts, the arm would go under the plate. My plate is FFW...
