Gov arm adj question

Got my initial quest answered in another post but it brought up another. I need to adjust the gov arm for the new plate, I cranked the screw in until it is flush with the nut which brought the arm about 1/4" from the plate, I need more adjustment but am paranoid about dropping the nut/screw into the pump, can I remove the back half of the pump without causing a major headache? Once I get the screw out can I replace it with a longer one so I can replace the lock nut or is it a propriatary screw to the Bosch pump?

make sure your shut down solenoid is in the run position. then move the throtle linkage and see where the arm hits the plate. it is suppose to hit the bottom edge. i think you are trying to get it to hit the plate without moving the throtle.

If your plate is all the way forward it will not hit the plate. Make the top of the arm level with the bottom of the plate. Take it for a drive use your boost gauge to fine tune the arm. Try for 34 lbs of boost depending on your altitude maybe less.

No, ingition is on and running the throttle back and forth the arm misses the plate by 1/4" low. Tried it about 6 times looking at different angles just to make sure I was seeing things right. It does stop about 1/16" past where the edge of the plate would be if it sat that low.

ok, you say that the ignition is on. does that mean that the solenoid is lifted all the way up. if you havent tried yet bump the starter then go to the solenoid lever and see if you can push it up anymore

aksparkey01 is right. You need to lift the solenoid lever all the way up before checking gov. lever adjustment. You can do by hand instead of bumping the starter but just turning on the ign. won't pull it up.

With the key off I can raise it about 3/4" with the key on it is all the way up, cannot raise it at all by hand. I was doing the adjustment with the key on and working the throttle back and forth by hand.

Try adjusting it with the motor running. But other than that try the boost gauge to set, under 34 psi arm is to high over arm is to low. Bear in mind elevation will have to be considered.

I turn the ignition on, close the cab doors and in the engine bay, lift the solenoid by hand so it latches. then pull the throttle linkage to the WOT position and check the gov arm adjustment.
Youll want to make sure the arm contacts just above the first sharp edge so it doesnt ride under the plate.

Allowing it to do it's job. When sliding the plate around the arm changes adjustment. Sliding the plate forward especially will allow the arm to go under the plate, it can even get stuck resulting in high egts. That is exactly what happened to the engine below that had no gauges.

I understand high egt's will adjusting it allow it to do anything youre not already doing with your foot and the pyro. I should have been more specific.

If the arm gets stuck under the plate from lack of adjustment there is nothing your foot can do about it.

after reading another post I am considering just disconnecting the AFC all togethor and letting my foot do the work. No one else has keys to my truck, not even my wife so "driveability" for others is not really a concern. Has anyone else done this other than the one who wrote the post?
