Got My Truck

Well bought and picked up a March of '94 Cummins 2500. Pretty nice truck. waiting for gauges till i bomb. Right now i got a few things on it that need fixin. The fuel gauge is dead, back window seal is bad, Injector #2 is damp at the pump, rear diff needs a new seal, needs 1 new transcooler line, idle needs adjusted? It smoke like a pig on start up and if i dony have my foot on the throttle for the first 15 seconds it'll stall.

heres the pics

and a vid of it starting and smoking funny, Any idea on why it would smoke so much? even waiting for the grids to go?

Put the idle at a little over 800rpm and it will start, idle, and take off better. also it will heat up a little faster and is better when you have the AC on. My fuel guage prob and most is the sender in the tank, not to bad to fix. i think my timming has sliped a little but that was after a few runs to 4K rpm. Now it has a little smoke at idle but not quite that bad. I know a guy that sliped it pretty bad and it smoked like yours.

Iker...
I got your note and will look under my in my storage area when it gets warm to see what odds and ends I have left.I know I have 5 sets of injectors, most are waaaayyy to big for yours, and a few other liitle things.I know my steel chrome directionals are still here and if you want I would swap you for the grey road wheels you have,if they are a complete set.All you would need to do is pay the bill for the tire work and they are yours as I have a little project for a set of those road wheels up my sleeve. My directionals have two like new 245/75/R16 snows on them and I would give them to you also if you want.

Personally,I did not think the smoke is too awful bad at startup. If you think thats bad come stand near mine with the big injectors when its cold and your eyes will weep. The smoke issue you have looks like it could also be sucking air into the fuel lines.Check the return line off the p-pump and make sure its not leaking back under the intake shelf near the fuel filter(its best looked at from the bottom with a bright flashlight). Also pull the plug on your fuel heater assembly and look and see if its wet as its another notorious area for air.Another place to look is the lift pump and to do this all you need to do is remove the rubber boot off of the plunger and look and see if its wet.Wet means its leaking and sucking air and affecting the prime of your truck and the low end power.

The first thing I would do is a good baseline service.Oil,Oil filter,Fuel Filter, grease all greasable fittings, check PS fluid, check the trans and transfer case fluids, check the rears and change the antifreeze. This way you have a fresh start and know where you stand right off and can work from there. If it was mine I would also probaly change the trans and trans filter, but you know what your budget is better than me.Look the motor over for oil leaks and fuel leaks.Look around the delivery valves and injectors making sure they are clean and dry.

If you get lost or need a hand drop me a note and I will see what I can do to help.Congrats on the truck........Andy

P.S.-Flame Red Rulez!!!!....

Looks good. My truck used to smoke a lot on startup before i put a new overflow valve in it. Now it just hazes a little black when its cold, and if you let it idle long enough, and tap the throttle, she will puff some white. Im thinking im starting to get a hole in one of the fuel lines, or the fuel heater though.

And you will love the 10 plate, and 3k together, but your EGT's will be hot without a timing advance. Mine ran pretty good like that though. Might as well start saving for tranny work

Eric
