Got my timing adjusted??

I just got my timing adjusted. It was supposed to be at 11 deg. before (stock should be 12.5 deg) and the shop bumped it to 16 deg.

I don't really seem to be able to notice any difference. What should the differences be? EGT's? fuel milage? performance?...

Now I haven't driven it much yet but it seems to be the same as before even with a 5 deg. change in the timing. Am I missing something?

I had my timing adjusted and probably wouldnt have noticed a difference if I handnt installed the 370's first. It was real sputtery with the 370's before and after it is smooth as ever. Doesnt pop off when starting like before but it runs so much better with the timing adjustment.

when i bumped mine up tp 16 i noticed lower egts, I lost some smoke on the bottom end and gained some on the top end. Fuel mileage got a little better and it quite doing that popping when when it was cold. And i noticed the motor got a little more clattery.

Mine had slipped to 9* and they set it too 15*, noticed a heck of a difference, more get up and go especially in bottom end, more boost more of everything really.

Not a lot of performance gain on mine, but EGT's are AWESOME now compared to the 12* it was at. Also runs a lot better up high,a nd doesent pop near as bad. Will rev to around 3300 before it starts popping when warm.

Mine improved the bottom end smoke as well, but increased top end smoke. I think it improved top end performance a little. Nothing noticable at the bottom end. Mine still has the shutters something terrible at low rpm. Gonna have to get some dv's i guess. Oh and it hates cold weather, but I'm not sure which affected it the most 370's or the timing, did them both over the same summer. So that winter I noticed a change.

UPDATE - The reason I got the timing done was I had a long trip coming up. So here is what I found after a 1000 mile round trip.

It definately smokes less from a standing start.
It seem to be a little louder now when it running.
Starts the same, maybe slightly quicker.
EGT's are down slighty.
Fuel milage is UP. I haven't done the calculations yet but my milage was about the same towing a 6000 LB. boat over the Appleation Mtns. as they were before empty.

Still don't see any performance difference but with the other pluses that's OK!

Starting isn't a problem unless: A. It's REALLLLLY COLD!, and B. You crank the timing up closer to 20*+!

At ~17*, it still starts fine...well, as good as a 310K mile engine is gonna start in 20* weather!
