Got a crazy suspension idea.

So i decided that my truck needs a leveling kit. However, i dont have that extra money now. I got 4 Skyjacker hydro 7000's which support up to 3 inches of lift. Now, heres the idea. A few months ago, dad got hit at a bridge and insurance replaced the front axle. we have all of those parts leftover. including his coils. They seem to be about 1-2" longer then my coils. Could i swap out my coils with his to lift the front end some?

you should, would rid a lot harder I bet...... as long as they fit in the cups it should work, not sure what you would do to steering geometry tho

I was at a show and saw a cheepo trick The guy simply cut off the spring perch and moved it down 4 inches. Kept his stock springs. Just FYI

No effect at all, other than the control arms will be at a slightly steeper angle which will make it ride a TINY bit rougher. This angle change will occur with any lift...spring, spacer, or otherwise. Isn't even really noticeable until you get into the 6-8 inches range.

As long as you can weld great, this really is a good way to lift a vehicle.

Ok so this is CRAZY!!! the truck went into the shop today for safety recalls. apparently there is one i have to take it back for which will include the cutting off of the spring bracket and rewelding it better. So my idea is, i sweet talk teh service department into welding it a little lower, giving me my free lift. so, how much lower should i have it welded?

don't do this. It's dangerous and a good way to get killed for $100. I build rockcrawling buggies/trucks for hobby and can assure you there is only 1 way to modify suspension... that's the right way.
