General Questions
Hows it goin? Any way I have some general questions, and looking for some advice from you guys. I have a 98 2500 12v CTD. 1st off my fuel guage reads correctly for the most part, yet every few min. it goes to empty, and makes that annoying alert. when it comes back up it ussually reads the correct fuel reading, does anyone know what that might be? 2nd I am looking to get a new exhaust system, I am looking for a way for the turbo sound to be extreemly loud. should I straight pipe it, get a system, 3", 4", 5"? Im also lookin for the most cost effective way of acheaving this. 3rd is there any way to adjust the idel on my truck. in the morning when I start it it seams to idel to low (around 700rpm) and I need to step on the gas a little. if I have the heat on and turn the wheel it will stall. maybe the intake heater is bad too? Thanks ahead of time for the help.

I will try to help with your questions.
1. Fuel gauge warning bell. Your fuel gauge sending unit located in the tank is bad - it is a common problem with our trucks. Mine has been out about a year now and I have the part but waiting on warmer weather to change it out. The part can be obtained from your local ******* for about $40-$50. You can replace the sender by dropping the tank or raising the bed. Raising the bed from the drivers side seems to be the best approach from what I have read due to limited access to the hoses if you drop the tank. Do a search for a reply posted by Infidel on this subject. Also, there is a lot of info on the board regarding this problem if you will do a search.
2. Regarding exhaust systems, most on this site suggest going with a 4" straight piped system. They claim it will handle up to about 500 H.P. when you do modifications. Also you can remove the silencer ring in the turbo if you want more noise! Check with the vendors who advertise on this site or do a search on e-bay for the exhaust system. The installation is relatively easy and should take you about an hour once you have the old system off.
3. The idle on our trucks is adjusted by moving the throttle stop screw that is located at the rear of the injection pump. You get to it from the top of the engine on the drivers side and all it takes is a combination (open and box end) 10 mm wrench. Unlock the lock bolt on the top and adjust the idle by turning the bottom bolt clockwise, then re-lock the top lock bolt. Do this with the engine off and only turn about a 1/4 turn and then re-check. Like mine to idle at about 850.
Hope this helps.

If you visit Dodgeram.org and go through the Diesel section there is a lot of good information on making adjustments and other routine tasks, some with photos. I seem to recall a picture of the idle adjustment screw in there, I will see if I can find it and post the link.

thanks guys,
I was hoping it was something else besides the asending unit, but I should just get it done before I rip out that alarm. I wil try the ideler scew, I havent had the chance yet. thanks for your help. Oh I think I will hopefully go with the 4inch straight pipe. I love the sound of a CTD.
