thanks for your response pat. must have been typing at the same time. but now im really confused, I have found some threads of guys using them in pre 24v trucks. they run off the obd2 port and as far as I can find obd2 started in 96. if im not correct in this please enlighten me. im a 1st gen guy and this is my first 2nd gen so im learning please be gental.

You can monitor certain things with obd2, but you are limited to what is being monitored. I guess rpm, coolant temp, AIT and tps could be available. Im guessing edge is compatible with other sensors to add on for one "gauge" for all. I personally don't like digital screens and enjoy sweeping needle gauges... But I'm not spending your money either!

ya i hear ya gorms.but i can never seam to find a pillar that fits nicely. pain in the *** in a first gen. so i figured a insight with all the adapters to do egt boost fuel and oil pressure would do nicely. i got this truck with a settlement that was paid to me. so i figure this will be the last truck i get to buy till i get done with school and years to come. i figure get it how i want and that will satisfy me for a while

I suppose it could be used to monitor the OBD bus, 96 was the first year of trans control, etc, so that could be the reason it goes to that year.
Still not going to give you the important stuff without external hookup like boost/EGT.
What do they want for it?
Just looked it up, they don't tell you what the functions monitored are for the 96-98.4 trucks, seems a little hinky that they don't do so but do for all the other years.
I guess it isn't bad, but not much different than what you can do with a smartphone and the wireless OBD2 tap. You would still have to get a boost and EGT gauge that way though.

pat the monitor and the original wire harness were bought for my buddies truck that was wrecked. Brand new in the box all I would have to pay for is the accessory pack for the boost, egt, fuel and stuff like that. Accessory pack is only 299.
