All 97's got hydraboost, interiors are the same, I am told some late 97's have a 53, but I don't worry, only have ever heard of 1 12 valve 53 breaking. 96 manual truck should have 215 Hp, so they should run very similar, and no, the 97 was the last year for the old shift tower.

Hi Pat, Good info, thanks. After having the '06 with the G56 I think the later model top cover and a short shift kit would be a nice mod to the NV4500.

Don't hold me to this, but I am 99.5 percent certain you can just bolt the 98 up cover on and then use the good shifter.

Fleabay usually has used covers somewhat reasonable.

Hydraulic powered brake booster. Generally gives you better braking than the vacuum units prior.

They can be a pain to work on when there are problems, but I wouldn't go back for anything.
