Fuel tank screens
Hi, I have a 96 dodge ctd. I am replacing the fuel sending unit and noticed that the 2 screens in the assembly in the tank were almost completely plugged with black slime. My question is, do i just clean the screens and put it all back together? Or do I cut the srceens out? Or is there an upgrade kit to replace this? I just think its kinda stupid to have an internal screen inside the tank that cant be accessed without dropping the tank. Also where is a good place to get a good sending unit? Thanks!

The tank screen is usually self cleaning by fuel sloshing back and forth.
When I find one that's clogged up the tank comes all the way out and is flushed out well.
Stock sender is dealer only and about $60.
