as long as there is no voltage it should drop unless a hanging relay.

Solenoid would generally burn up if that were the case, no? Especially since its not a switch power source, its right from the battery.

You could pull the solenoid off, clean it up and re-install it and it would probably work. But make sure you get some money off the price since it wouldn't pass a safety inspection.

well no not really does it burn up if you leave your truck running for a whole day? but i see what you're saying, sometimes the arc is small enough that any small tap will break the contact. there's not much that is holding the solenoid up being spring loaded in the down position.

If the relay is sticking, its energizing the pull circuit, which draws a lot of amperage (around 70 IIRC). It would be like the starter sticking. The hold circuit is run off of a switched source and is only around 10 amps.

How do you clean the solenoid on these trucks?

I have have put three solenoids on and would like to stop paying for them over and over.

I would like to put a new relay on too. Where are these located?

Remove the solenoid, take it apart, clean the barrel and shaft.
Lube it lightly with silicone grease. Replace the boot if torn/missing.

A better way to shut off the truck instead of stalling it with the clutch is to pop the hood and push the shut off lever down. A lot less strain on the drivetrain.

How about a simple pull cable? Maybe not the best for every one but it sure is cheaper than a new solenoid.
