fuel shutoff issues

fuel shutoff issues
I tried a search but it must be disabled or is having its own issues. My daughter's truck, '95, will not run longer than fifteen seconds or so. I had already replaced the pull in relay, and replaced the hold in relay yesterday. It ran fine yesterday and this morning. When my wife attempted to leave her office in it this morning, it would start but die after fifteen seconds or so. Tied up the fuel solenoid, runs fine. Has anyone had a hold in relay go out that quick?

This could be caused by several things , linkage from fuel solenoid out of adjustment , an intermittent electrical connection , fuseable links , battery connections , ing. sw. , ect .
Can be tedious to chase down any intermittent problem , add electrical to that and its a little harder .
Hook up a test lite , to solennoid and see if lite goes out , if so follow up stream in the system tell you find it , should get a wiring diagram .

I had a similar problem happen today! Turns out, the rubber boot on the solenoid was rotted almost completely off (I knew it, but was putting it off), and the steel shaft and bore had rust and dirt inside. Just take the solenoid off, scotchbrite the shaft and hose it, the spring and bore out with brake cleaner, lube shaft and bore with spray silicone and reassemble with a new boot. I made the boot from a section of 16" bicycle inner tube. It now works like new.

I have more symptoms, maybe. I took the truck for a little trip yesterday evening. With the sol. tied up, it will still shut off by key. We're gonna go out and start in on it in a little while.

only thing that shuts the truck off is the droping of the solenoid, if its tied up it shouldnt stop. take the solenoid off the linkage and check the travel of the linkage on the pump. see if its runs with the solenoid disconected and check the difference from where the solenoid is in the up position and the linkage is in the up position.

Update to the update. Wire tie had came off of the solenoid, allowing it to shutoff, thus allowing normal operation. This morning I took it apart, cleaned it out, replaced the disintegrated inner tube boot, and reinstalled. Works fine...for now...again.
