Fuel Prefilter

Hey guys, just picked up my pre-filter from the Cummins dealer for $8.75. Costs about $45 at the Dodge dealer! Thought I'd post this up for those who need the part numbers (http://www.dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/fil...filt_clean.htm). They are:

# Dodge dealers for $42 Part number 04762962.
# Cummins/Fleetguard for $6 Part number 3845400-s

You have to give the parts guy at Cummins the part number otherwise he'll just say "you have to get that at the dealer."

By the way, the guy told me the lift pump is only about $85!

Good luck!

That's why I avoid the Dodge dealer like the plague.

The guys at my Cummins dealer are extremely great. It may help that Edmonton lives, breathes, eats, and loves diesel trucks. They also have a thing set up for Dodge owners - you pay $25 to get 10% off stuff for your Dodge... forever.

It has saved me a bunch.

You need a long extension with I think a 17mm socket. You lay underneath and fish the socket up there to crack it loose.

Word of warning...

only crack it loose from under there, get the rest from the top. If you loosen it too much, the fuel will run out around the o-ring, right down your ratchet extension, down your arm and into your armpit. I know from experience.

I used to like the Calgary Branch, but lately they are thieves. For the shipping on the Greyhound, you can call Edmonton and get way better service. David is one sharp dude...

Oooh... I don't know the guys by name, but is he from the Parts desk?

I've found pretty much every one of their employees is enthusiastic about diesels of all sorts - it seems half of their parts staff must drive dodge diesels.
