Fuel plate, wow...

Fuel plate, wow...
I was checking out my inj pump yesterday and noticed that the sheer bolt on the afc had allready been changed out, nice! So I removed the afc to expose the fuel plate. I found that someone ground the linkage on the afc instead of backing off the star wheel? Anyway, the plate was full forward(not by me), and I wanted more go. I stumbled across some pics of plate profiles and got brave. I made a kind of #10 plate, and reinstalled full forward. backed off the star wheel and test drove. Holy moley, at least twice the pull as before. Makes a nice cloud and the turbo screems (in comparrison of course). now its fun to drive. Cant wait to do more. looking for injectors any recomendations, DDP's, 300's, new era's, pennsicola inj., any info would be great, dont have money for mistakes...
yes gauges are coming soon...

I like my New Era 370s. I also have a HTT 62/14 turbo and a bunch of other stuff. I would say give Chuck at New Era a call and see what he says.
They are a great bang for the buck. They also have the correct spray pattern for our trucks.

If you slide the plate full forward you must check the gov arm adjustment or you're asking for very expensive damage especially without gauges.

Sorry for the shock treatment, but it is all in good intentions.
Pull the plate back until the gauges are installed.
A 5 speed has a little problem with the 5th gear retaining nut coming loose. Just because the previous owner did some pump work doesn't meant the tranny work was fixed. You can temporarily avoid the problem by staying off the power in 5th gear.
The early pumps (94-95) usually work much better with a Governor Spring Kit (GSK) to clear up a studder.
Pump timing must be ajusted. Factory time is really late and if you go with a GSK it should be no less than 17°.
If you're looking at injectors a stout clutch should be first.
What's your thoughts?

Yea you might want to consider some gauges. I'd say you would have been alright with jus the stock plate slide forward. I have 370's and am not very impressed with them. Lookin to go with New Era's 435's maybe.

Gauges (especially pyrometer) need to be the first and foremost mod. I have a 1996 5 speed and with just a #11 plate it would light the stock clutch up in 3rd, 4th, or 5th gears and the truck/clutch only had 26,000 miles on it at that point. You might want to plan for a clutch soon. Also, a good exhaust is definitely in order, I just got a 5" one from "markoidaho" on ebay for about $360 shipped and its even quieter than the 4" one I had bought from Summit. He sells 4" ones for about $300 shipped too.

Jumping on the guage band wagon too. I had just an 8 plate slid about a 1/8" forward and a 3K gov kit and thought it was no problem. I got the pyro hooked up and saw 1400 degrees easy. Luckily I didn't fry a piston.

OUCH... Your truck must have not liked that much... I can't wait for mine #8 to come. Did you get the boost fitting with the plate and what boost do you see? If you just have the the plate what boost do you see w/o?

It was a while ago. I did get the elbow with the plate. I think I was seeing about 33 psi with the 8 plate. I can hit 38 psi now with the 10, injectors and exhaust. EGT's climb rapidly after 35 psi though. Stock HX-35's are only good for about 35 psi.

Gauges are in....
EGT's are up 1200 most of the full throttle time. When I go from 40 mph to the max of 83 mph it hits 1300 for a second.(stock exhaust with a cat and muff for now)
Boost seems good with no wast gate I can get to 34 psi
So far I like the pensicola diesel stage II injectors. noticible power increase, alot smoother idle. So far worth the $230 shipped, FL. tax inculded, time will tell.

I don't even run a plate, and my EGT's only get to 1300*. I was shocked. My boost gets up to 36 psi. My clutch SCREAMS for mercy, so I'm gonna chunk it soon and get the SB 13" full feramic conversion. I just hope my 5th gear won't explode after that.
