Unhappy Fuel mileage dropped SIGNIFICANTLY

Guys

after filling up right now, and not really messing around with the truck, i calculated 14.23 miles per gallon, usually im up there in the 17 minimum range for combined city and highway driving, I have not really messed with the rig, at all, no smokes, no racing no nothing. I just replaced the fuel filter, and my lines seem to be tight, no diesel leaks, or smell of diesel anywhere on the motor, any ideas?

I took my own advise and experience on this post and came up emptyhanded as well...

Thank you!for the input fellas...

If you've switched fuel stations switch back.
If you haven't switched switch now.
A couple months back several folks in my parts were complaining of the same thing.
Turned out they all had one thing in common, the same Exxon station.
Switching to Conoco or Cenex and their mpgs went back up to normal

Was this just one tank or has it been several? Perhaps last time you filled it up more than you did before the time before that which just threw the average off.

Funny, I just fueled again and I am only seeing about 15 mpg myself. I have purchased fuel all over the area and there seems to be no difference. Mine has been down all summer. I attribute it to crappy fuel.

I am in Yuma AZ and I was having the same problem also, getting about 14 MPG using chevron diesel and that was highway driving only. I go home which a 200 mile driving straight shot all desert highways. I am going to switch stations for now, but I think very soon I want to start making Bio diesel, just need to find a steady supply of oil for it.

Its been two tanks

I use stanadyne RELIGIOUSLY on my truck. Both the lubricity and the fuel treatment every fillup. I fill it till it cant anymore, right now im seein 70 miles since the fillup and the fuel needle is just above the Full mark, which seems to be normal, BUT this is a different station that im using, the previous two fillups were at 2.15 at wally world, i paid 2.32 this time around though, and swapped a fuel filter.. (thanks for the bolt trick infidel!) seems to somewhat have gone back to normal, this is a trial tank, so no goofing off, even though its been hard...

The bolt trick (actually nut!) only works on '94-'96 with vacuum assist brakes.
Removing the two nuts that hold the master cylinder to the booster allows the master to swing easily towards the driver's side giving you a ton of room to get at the filter.
Far as I'm concerned this is the only way to service the filter on a pre '96
