Fuel Injectors Leaking?

Fuel Injectors Leaking?
Can fuel injectors leak? Numbers 3, 4, and 5 seem to be moist right around where the injector meets the head. The other three injectors are bone dry. It’s not fuel dripping from the high pressure line, and it’s not oil from the valve covers. Should I tighten the nut, or can I replace the washer/o-ring? These are the factory injectors, never been out. Thanks.

I don't know about the 24V but I had the same thing on my 12V. I pulled out the injectors and replaced the copper "washers" on the bottom end of the injectors and reinstalled and retorqued them. No more leaks (sweat).
You could try to just retorque them but you still need to remove all of the line so you might as well pull them out. I got the copper washers at the local Cummins dealer. There are different thicknesses so get the correct ones.

Thanks, I just wanted to make sure. I'm thinking this might be a good time to put in 215 injectors, why not kill two birds with one stone!
Maybe I'll get lucky and my turbo will take a crap soon, that would be a great oportunity to put in a bigger one, or twins!!!

Don't wait. A turbo that goes bad can cause a runaway engine, or even just FOD can cause you to loose enough compression or cause enough blowby to warrent an engine rebuild.

or bad.. just replace them, if that dont solve your problem, then id suggest the rubber o rings that are in the injectors could have gone bad, well on the injectors per say..

Best place to get 215 injectors?
The copper “washers” must definitely be bad, pored a few drops of water while the engine was running and bubbles started forming. Decided to just install 215 injectors, don’t want anything bigger, PDR has them for $500, anybody else have a good (cheaper) source?

Was going to do the fuel plate and gsk first, but since the injectors need to be removed, minus will do the injectors first. Yes $500, seems a lot for only 40hp, but I don't think I want to go with bigger injectors. I just want a mild upgrade.

Gotcha!
If I were you, I'd wait and try to find a deal on set of used ones, or find them a little cheaper.
Changing injectors isn't hard, so it's not a big deal to fix them now, then change the again later! I can swap them in less than an hour if nothing bad happens

Yeah maybe you're right. I'm just the kind of guy who likes to do everything at once. But you're right, maybe once I fix the injectors and add the cam plate, I won't want the 215 injectors. Oh, by the way do diesel injectors get gummed up like gasser ones do, should I clean them while I have them out?

The 215's gave a nice increase in power. My tranny didn't care for it. I was replacing the TC and doing a full rebuild inside of 3 months.
