Mine is leaking from the terminal on the front when the connector is removed and the connector on top burned up yesterday. I unplugged the main harness and left the connector plugged in where it is leaking untill I can get this fixed. I have done some searches and found that several people recommend removing it. I live in Alaska and rely on the truck to 40 below. Also I found where someone said that it costs over $1000.00 to replace. If that is the case why would Cummins use a fuel heater if it is that expensive and is not necessary.

Nevermind, I must have been searching for the wrong keywords. After reading countless posts I am going to keep the heater. For less than $100 for everything from Fleetguard, why not?

When you replace the heater get a new prefilter. When I got m y truck at 210,000 miles it was neglected. I opened the filter and it looked like it had wax in there. I am glad I changed it, but sorry at the same time because my heater warped and leaked. I removed the heater from the prefilter. I may see snow once a year if I go to Tahoe otherwise it may get down to 40° if it's cold. I love California.

What I did was replace the heater and then not plug in the relay. I have a fuel pressure gauge and if it ever starts dropping, I will plug in the heater then. This way I am not likely to develop air leaks.
