Angry fuel gelled today

i filled up yesterday in preparation for plowing snow tonight. i had the truck plugged in as the temp was around 0 degreees F in new york. it started up fine and off i went... four miles down the road and chug... chugg....chuggg... dead in my tracks. three hours later after a bottle of anti gel and a tow from a friendly guy in a GMC gasser..gasp! i was in a heated greenhouse warming things up. i went to the fuel station, CITGO, and asked the owner if his fuel was winterized. he said "we just got a delivery and the guy asked me if i wanted additive in the diesel so i guess he put it in" i told him to watch him next time because there will be a lot of p****d diesel owners if the start gelling up. as for me i will add fuel treatment at each fill up just to be sure.

At those temps you should be adding your own additive. Power Service or Howes works great. 16 OZ per tank.

I carry a little onan generator and two old hair-dryers (don't laugh...) In a pinch, I can set one blowing on the fuel filter and work up and down the lines with the other. It can and has gotten me out of a jam. Once I added Power Service AFTER I filled up and then shut down shortly thereafter---yup, next morning--jelly!

If it gels after you use Power Service or Howes they will pay the tow. It is guaranteed not to gel if you use it.

Read the fine print, you have to buy it by the case and one case per year to get a free tow.

I've never had my fuel gel using the recommended amount of PS or Howe's with straight #2.
Minus 35F here last week with no problem.

Be careful, the PS in the silver jug does not contain anti-gel

And PS 911 contains alcohol! Use only in emergency and in limited quantity.

For anti-gel I prefer Diesel Power additive.

I use it in the summer.....i know it doesnt have the anti-gel. Thanks for mentioning it Bill as theyre are people here that don't know this.

The 911 does contain alcohol...It was an emergency....Howes left me stranded and i had no chocie...i got her fired up and went and topped off the tank with fresh winter blend diesel......and some ND 30 wt oil.

I just use PS products now

I do this too in the white or silver jug......if you read the silver jugs fine print it says treats 50 gals at double the cetane boost so ive always filled up and dumped the whole 32 oz's in there...works great.
