Fuel filter

haven't needed to change yet but was looking at it & wondered if on a 97 will the cover come up far enough with the fuel lines attached or do you remove them also since space seems kinda snug ?

Never tried, drop the canister out the bottom, kinda snug, but if my big hands will fit, I am sure yours will also.

After the first time, it gets easier, just make sure you have the tab aligned with the slot, and don't try and pull the canister up to the cover with the bolt, easy way to break things.........

Last time I did mine I took the intercooler pipe off. It gave some much needed room.

Is it any different than on a 96?? I just always reach down and unscrew it and throw the new one in takes about 5 minutes, it's a little tight but there is enough room to do it without removing anything. At least that is how it is on the 96

Yes the 07 uses a replaceable element in a can.

A little tip, use a small coffee can and rag to catch the diesel when you drain the canister. I usually set one on the axel below the canister and use the rag to level it out so it don't fall as it drains. Then I just loosen the screw on top until I can turn it with a socket on an extension by hand. Hold the canister with one hand and loosen the screw the rest of the way with the other until the canister can drop free...don't let it drop. I then set the canister on the frame below it. Go under the truck, grab it, lower it out. Install is the reverse, but, it's a little harder since I fill the canister with diesel first and it's hard to not spill some diesel putting it in. Once it's on, crack the banjo bolt on top loose and start pumping the prime button. With the canister mostly filled with diesel when I install it, I usually only have to push the prime button 5-8 times before diesel starts to come out the banjo bolt. Tighten the banjo bolt down while priming. Start truck and enjoy. Some people experience the truck stall shortly after start up, but, it's never happened to me when I install a filter the way I described above.
