Front and Rear Main Seal
Hey guys , I'm preping my 12 valve to be installed . Its a 1996 engine with 120K . I did KDP , up graded the vacuum pump , its getting a new front main seal .
Should I mess with the rear main ... Looks nice a dry but considering I am converting this motor to a manual trans I should do it ?
Right now the motor is in the front frame section . I know the main seal surface has to be super clean before installing the seals .
Also I am going to fire up the motor before I remove it from the frame to get the seals to seat other wise I would think the oil could slosh and mess up the seals .
From what I understand the heat between the seal and crank causes the Teflon to seat the seal ?

I would replace the rear main. Cheap insurance since you've already done the hard part of gaining access to it.

May have screwed the pooch .... Not sure if I drove the seal too far in ... I used the seal driver with the top hat side in ... it fits both ways flush or in ... The seal that came out was a little different then the one installed .
I drove it flush with the hat side in ... looks like its riding in a different spot on the crank .
Heres a few pics ... Let me know if I should go get a new seal ...LOL
Thanks
greg
