front drive shaft 4x4 ujoint
does anyone know if the front drive shaft, from the transfer case to front diff short drive shaft, turns when you drive even with 4wd disengaged I think my squeaking and now wierd rattle scrape sound is coming from that shaft as the front u-joint is pretty lose and is in need of replacing?

I had a squeak that was hard to pin down in my truck. It ended up bieng the u-joints in the knuckle. If this is it there are some springs and stuff in there also. I had them replaced for $60 after I bought the u-joints, they have to use a press. Good luck with it.

the shaft will spin as the truck is driven, it has enough drag in the carrier to spin it. if you can get the joint rebuilt for $60...that is a good price, I do them myself, but they can be a pain just cause they are so awkward. be sure that the bearing in the double cardan get addressed be it replaced or greased.
