There is a site, not sure on the link, sure someone will post it.

You can just call the dealer as well.

My cable is fraying, could go any day now or any year, who knows. I went down to the dealer for the CANZ9700... only $15.05 but the thing is on backorder! I called other dealerships in the area to make sure I wasnt getting BS'ed and no luck. I can't find any places online that have it and the ste@lership guys have no clue about when it may or may not come in.

Can anyone point me in the right direction here? The cable is scary looking but it has been like that for some time.

I think you're out of luck.
One guy on another board has been waiting six weeks for the cable.
With Chrysler bankrupt and reorganizing the days of easy repair parts for 10-15 year old trucks may be over. No money in it with low demand.
I'd check the junkyards. The majority of trucks probably had the recall done with the improved cable.

Do beware. When mine frayed it finally got stuck at WOT while passing on a two lane road. I was going close to 100mph when I shut it down and coasted to the side.

Since you haven't gone through the trouble of showing a signature of what you drive it is pretty hard for us to help you out. I have in my posession a Mopar part # 1-04897407AA throttle cable. It fits a 97 Dodge/Cummins 5 speed manual transmission equipped pick-up. If your truck has not had safety recall #970 that includes ;

Part Number Description
CANZ9700 Throttle Control Cable & Linkage Package

Each package contains the following components:
Quantity Description
1 Throttle control cable
2 Throttle rod ball studs
2 Throttle rod ball stud nuts
1 Throttle control cable ball stud
1 Throttle control cable ball stud nut
1 Short R/H threaded rod end
1 Short L/H threaded rod end
1 Long R/H threaded rod end
1 Throttle return spring

I suggest you push the issue with the local dealer. To my knowledge there is no time limit to have safety recalls completed.

Again, I have no clue what you have, so the recall may not even be for your pickup. Here is the link for the service procedure.

Its a 96 2500 4x4 5spd. Truck has a total of 3 recalls (including this throttle cable one) assigned to it, none of which have been tended to.

For what years are the components in these linkage assemblies identical? I suppose I could keep hounding the dealerships but backorder is backorder I would think, they simply cant make it appear out of thin air. Even if I did trust them to perform the recall procedure the part is still unavailable, no?

I did not however, ask for JUST the cable PN, I may have to do that and forget about the whole kit? Though getting the kit would be awesome. What do you think?

If it were me I would get a new cable and hound the dealership on the recalls. Once the kit came in you would have a spare cable.

Mopar Parts America.com shows it in stock, dunno if the website is up to date, but it would be worth a call.

From my memory they are all the same up to 98.4 (12 valve)
The reason the throttle cable recall stopped at 97 was they are supposed to have the updated cable that prevents the fray.

The reason the recall kit (which includes the cable and the throttle linkage) is lower cost is a Corporate thing to screw the dealer. The Dealer receives a small stocking profit for all parts. By dropping the cost on recall parts this drops the dealer profit when Corporate sees the number of recalls nationwide.
The dealer actually makes very little on replacement parts compared to Corporate. Remember that next time you call them a ***********.

I dont know what happened but I called them back up and all of a sudden the parts guy found like 20 of them within 200 miles of here instantaneously. He then said there were 133 dealerships in the country that had them. It literally took them 1 day to get the part here. They called and notified me today and am picking it up tomorrow.

Im not sure why but it seems that dealerships are hording them... the parts guy speculated it was because its a recall part... makes sense. So ask your parts guy if he can give you a list of all the dealerships that have them... they certainly have this information so be sure to pry it out of them! Dont even bother calling dealerships that have 1-3... they wont give them up. The parts guy will have information on their stock of this item.

Dont take no for an answer, pull the "its a recall" card if you have to, thats what seemed to get the ball rolling for me.
